Reason for Boycott
Tarım Kredi Kooperatif Market is rooted in a Türkiye-based agricultural cooperative system. Tarım Kredi Tedarik ve Üretim states that it sources 35 categories of agricultural raw materials through 17 regional unions and 1,619 cooperatives in Türkiye, processes farmers’ produce and supplies it to consumers. No verified evidence was found showing that Tarım Kredi directly supplies weapons, surveillance technology or logistical support to the Israeli, Chinese, Indian, Myanmar or any other oppressive state apparatus; operates in occupied territories; or knowingly uses forced labor connected to detention camps. Its disclosed export destinations include markets such as the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the UAE, Italy and Northern Cyprus, while Israel is not listed. However, agriculture is generally a high-risk sector for informal employment, seasonal-worker exploitation and child labor, so greater supplier-level human-rights transparency remains necessary. The retail chain nevertheless sells products belonging to various global corporations alongside its cooperative brands. Coca-Cola products were documented in Tarım Kredi stores in 2024, while a September 2025 consumer complaint reported promotional sales of Unilever brands including OMO and Domestos; KOOP Market responded that the complaint would be reviewed. These retail activities do not establish Tarım Kredi as a direct perpetrator and therefore do not justify a Strict Boycott classification. They do, however, meet BYKT’s “local capital, compromised shelves” criterion because the retailer provides shelf space, promotion and market access to companies classified as boycott targets. Tarım Kredi should therefore be classified as Conscience-Based / Discretionary, while its own locally sourced products may still be preferred selectively.
