Reason for Boycott
No verified evidence was found showing that Seiko directly supplies weapons, surveillance technology, military equipment or logistical services to the Israeli military; operates factories or infrastructure in illegal settlements; or directly participates in human-rights abuses affecting Palestine, East Turkestan, Kashmir, Arakan, Syria, Yemen or Sudan. Seiko adopted a group-wide human-rights policy based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and updated its procurement guidelines in 2025 to prohibit forced labor and child labor. Its modern-slavery statement discloses manufacturing in Japan, China and Thailand, with component suppliers in Japan, China, Malaysia and Singapore. This geographic exposure requires continuing scrutiny, particularly regarding forced-labor risks in China, but no substantiated Seiko-specific connection to forced labor in East Turkestan was identified. The available evidence therefore does not meet the threshold for Strict Boycott. However, Seiko’s presence in Israel is not limited to unauthorized resale or isolated parallel imports. Seiko Watch Corporation maintains an official Israel-specific website, store list and store map under its own corporate domain. Royalty identifies itself as Seiko’s exclusive official importer in Israel, and Grand Seiko’s official website lists an authorized salon in Tel Aviv’s Ramat Aviv Mall. Seiko Group’s institutional shareholders also include JP Morgan Asset Management, Vanguard, Goldman Sachs and BlackRock. Their reported positions total approximately 12%, although the figures come from different reporting dates and should not be presented as a synchronized controlling block. Seiko’s organized Israeli market, meaningful exposure to major global financial institutions and insufficiently transparent China-linked supply chain prevent it from qualifying as a fully clean alternative. Seiko should therefore be classified as Conscience-Based / Discretionary, High Risk.
