Reason for Boycott
Maret is a meat and deli products brand owned by Namet Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. The Maret brand was acquired by Namet from Tat Gıda / Koç Group in 2014. According to Namet’s own corporate history, Namet became one of Burger King’s global suppliers in 2010 and one of McDonald’s global suppliers in 2016. McDonald’s Türkiye publicly lists Namet as its red meat supplier and states that the beef used in products such as Big Mac, Hamburger, Cheeseburger and Quarter Pounder is produced by Namet from 100% beef. McDonald’s has been subject to BDS-backed boycott campaigns after its Israeli franchise provided free meals to Israeli military personnel. Since Maret operates under Namet, Namet’s critical meat supply relationship with McDonald’s applies to Maret as well. Therefore, Maret should be classified under the “Strict Boycott” category.
